Plant Pulses is a multidisciplinary research project deepening the dialogue between humans and nature. Supported by Maison Perrier-Jouët, we have teamed up with Bartłomiej Chojnacki and Klara Chojnacka, two researchers at the AGH University in Cracow, who devoted their careers to studying the ways plants communicate through ultrasounds. Their groundbreaking findings were translated into a multisensory installation that speaks about diversity and protection, inviting us to reimagine the plant world not as static, but as intelligent, expressive and vital.

Listening to nature alters the way we see it.
Immersed in the living spirit of the Champagne terroir, we have defined three emblematic species: Vitis vinifera (the vine), Trifolium repens (white clover), and Aristolochia clematitis (European birthwort). These axiophytes embody the equilibrium between cultivation and wildness, sustaining the vineyard’s biodiversity and vitality. They were eternalised in a unique sculptural herbarium – a living time capsule.

Plant signals, made audible by the Cracow-based researchers, were translated into a three-part audiovisual landscape reflecting the plant’s states: the shriek of dehydration, the relaxed silence of rehydration, and the multi-vocal communication with other species. Amplified and interpreted by composer Justyna Stasiowska and digital artist Eli Magaziner, the composition was projected across circular screens that mirror the perpetual cycles of nature.

What if the quietest sounds were the ones we truly needed to hear?
Symbolising our quest to understand the world around us, the project reveals what usually goes unnoticed.
