A unique sculpture representing the various and often contradictory requirements breeders, growers and sellers have of cut flowers, the Monster Flower 01 envisions a monstrous floral hybrid that resulted from a multistep research project initially carried out in 2014 to visualise the complexity of the horticulture industry and the ways humans manipulate nature. Originally executed in 3D-printed nylon after 3D-scanning an assemblage made of real flowers, the sculpture was reiterated a decade later in a bespoke, large-scale version in cast aluminium. A reflective stainless steel base mirrors the vertical piece and its surroundings, anchoring it in the local context.
