Perma White
Perma is a collection of unique sculptural pieces that reference archetypal functional forms, creating hybrids of domestic furniture. Each time, hand-drawn sketches and cardboard models are elevated into three-dimensional, structural assemblages of planes made with specially cast, flower-infused resin. Sourced from the excess accumulated by florists, discarded flowers are given a new life cycle by becoming a permanent part of the material. Bound by resin and then machined lengthwise, the surface of the material reveals a new world of natural adornment, wherein petals, stems, and buds unveil their anatomical arrangement, reminiscing veins and fossils found in natural stone.
The abstract forms developed for Sarah Myerscough Gallery at Design Miami/Curio 2019 are reminiscent of tables, benches or shelves. Made with opaque white bio resin that highlights the texture, rhythm and imperfections of waste flowers fossilised within, Perma 04, 05 and 06 were immersed in a rose-coloured environment with plastered walls and diffused soft light, bringing to mind a historical Rococo boudoir.
Displayed in a way to encourage interaction with the viewers, the pieces were animated by a choreographed movement of shadows cast by the visitors and the forms themselves. The ethereal atmosphere enhanced the subtle nuances of the material and helped the viewers explore the intricate beauty of a natural world suspended in these sensual forms.
